VAA Read Across America

VAA Students, Teachers, and Staff celebrated Read Across America March 6th – 10th.

Read Across America Week is typically celebrated from March 2nd to 6th. The entire month of March, in fact, is dedicated to reading. The National Education Association (N.E.A.) aims to encourage reading and educate people about its benefits, especially among children and young adults. Events are organized across the nation by schools and organizations to promote the same.

This year VAA celebrated with a Book Themed Spirit Week and a Fundraiser, Reach for the Stars!! Reach for the Stars is a pledge-based reading incentive challenge program. It puts educational books into students’ homes and rewards them for reading – while at the same time providing schools with cash and/or books for their classrooms.

We are excited to announce that our students exceeded the school goal and read a total of 54,656 minutes during our Reach for the Stars fundraiser. Through your generous support, the VAA Reach for the Stars program earned a total of $3,239.99 in pledges. Of that amount 50% ($1,620) came back to VAA in the form of books and cash. The students earned $1,619.99 in books with 80% of the school participating. Additional pictures from the awards ceremony are posted below.
